ORLANDO – UCF freshman quarterback Dillon Gabriel earned the Knights' first American Athletic Conference Player of the Week honor of the season on Monday, receiving co-Offensive Player of the Week accolades after leading UCF to a win over Stanford on Saturday.
Gabriel went 22-of-30 for 347 passing yards and four touchdowns in the 45-27 victory over visiting Stanford. No UCF freshman has thrown for more touchdowns in a game and the 347 yards were more than McKenzie Milton ever threw for as a freshman in 2016.
Also the Walter Camp Award National Player of the Week, Davey O'Brien Award Great 8 honoree and College Sports Madness's National Player of the Week, Gabriel led the Knights to their 28th win in their last 29 games over the weekend.
Gabriel is the first Knight to be named the AAC Offensive Player of the Week since Milton earned the honors on Oct. 15 of last season. Milton garnered the accolades four times in 2018 and the Knights had nine overall on the season.
UCF returns to action this weekend, traveling to Pittsburgh to take on the Panthers. Kickoff on Saturday at Heniz Field is set for 3:30 p.m. on ABC.
It was also announced on Monday that the Knights' next home game, a Sept. 28 contest against UConn, is set for a 7 p.m kick on ESPN2.
