UCF Sets Single-Round Record at Cougar Classic

CHARLESTON, S.C. (UCFKnights.com) – The UCF women's golf team set a single-round record as they wrapped up their first tournament of the fall at the Cougar Classic in Charleston, S.C. on Monday and Tuesday. The Knights finished their third round with a team score of 279, the lowest par 72 score since the UCF Challenge in the spring of 2017.

"I am so proud of our team for always fighting hard until the end." Head Coach Emily Marron said of the team's performance. "They played really tough today and showed a lot of grit. We have a talented team this year and this finish shows what we are capable of."

Throughout of the three-round event, the Knights battled their way up from finishing the first round in 12th place to placing T5 out of 17 teams – thanks to their record-setting third round. UCF shot 862 (-2) overall on the par 72 course.

The Knights were led by newcomer Tunrada Piddon, placing T12 overall and shooting 213 (-3) across the three rounds. Her best score came in the third round as she shot five-under-par for a 67.

Chinatsu Kobayashi shot an even-par across the three-round competition (216) which was good enough for a T25 finish. Sophomore Elizabeth Moon stayed consistent across the tournament with a 73(+1) in each of the three rounds and finished T27 with a 219.

Maria Balcazar finished T47 after shooting 221(+5) in her three rounds. Junior Ana Laura Collado showed the most improvement through the tournament, opening with an 86(+14) in the first round but improved to shoot two under par (70) in the final round.

With the third-round comeback, UCF beat out 11 other teams including No. 5 Florida State and No. 13 Auburn.
