ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFKnights.com) – After going undefeated this weekend, the UCF men's soccer team checks in at No. 16 in the United Soccer Coaches Poll.
After defeating then No. 6 North Carolina, the Knights have played in two matches, drawing with Penn State and defeating UTRGV in double overtime. UCF held a 2-1 lead against Penn State after the first 45 minutes but allowed the equalizer in the second half. The match eventually ended in a 2-2 draw after two periods of overtime.
The Knights looked sharp on Sunday as they scored two goals in the first five minutes of match action. UTRGV found two second half goals including the equalizer in the 90th minute to send the match to overtime. Eventually, UCF won on a penalty kick from Yoni Sorokin in the 107th minute to seal a 3-2 victory in double overtime.
The No. 16 ranking is one spot lower than the Knights were ranked to start the season. They were stagnant after the first week of the season, despite defeating North Carolina who was sixth in the nation.
Top Drawer Soccer's weekly poll had the Knights drop from No. 11 to No. 19 this week. UCF started the season at No. 17 in the poll and shot up in ranking to No. 11 after beating North Carolina.
