ORLANDO – UCF head coach Johnny Dawkins made one final addition to his roster this offseason with the signing of former VCU forward Sean Mobley, he announced on Monday.
The 6-foot-8 forward will sit out the 2019-20 season due to NCAA transfer rules and then be able to play his final two seasons with the Knights. The Cocoa Beach, Florida, native spent the last two seasons at VCU after prepping at Montverde Academy.
“We’re excited to get a talented player like Sean into the program,” Dawkins said. “He will bring us versatility and skill at the forward position. He’s a hard-worker and a good fit for us. Sean will be a great asset to us and we’re ready to welcome him into our UCFamily."
Mobley played in 63 games in his two seasons with the Rams, starting 36 times. He averaged 4.3 points per game and 2.8 rebounds per contest.
His best offensive outing came during his rookie campaign at Fordham when he put up 16 points on 6-of-10 shooting. He was the second-most accurate three-point shooter in 2017-18, hitting 38 percent from beyond the arc.
The Knights saw Mobley this past season when they defeat VCU in the first round of the NCAA Tournament, 73-58 for their first tournament win in school history. Mobley had three points and two steals in the loss to UCF.
Prior to VCU, Mobley was an ESPN four-star recruit out of Montverde, where he helped lead his squad to a 26-2 record and the semifinals of the Dicks Sporting Goods High School Nationals as a junior.
The new-look Knights are coming off of the best season in program history, advancing to the second round of the NCAA Tournament and finishing 24-9 overall. This year’s squad aims to keep the momentum going under Dawkins, who begins his fourth year at the helm this winter.
