ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFKnights.com) – UCF baseball head coach Greg Lovelady announced the addition of Barrett Serrato on Tuesday; replacing Ted Tom who was promoted to Assistant Coach earlier this month. Serrato joins the Knights after spending the previous two seasons with Lee University as an assistant coach.
“I’m really excited to add Barrett and Karlie to the UCF family,” Lovelady said. “His decorated college and professional playing career and successful coaching stops at Kent State and Lee University make him the perfect candidate to help continue to build what we have here. He is going to be a vital part of our program going forward and I cannot wait to get to work with him and have his wife here in Orlando with us.”
Serrato began his coaching career at Kent State, where he oversaw hitting and the infielders while assisting with outfielders and base running. In the two years of leading the Golden Flashes offense, they were 75-36, including a 44-win MAC Championship season in 2016.
Out of high school, Serrato was drafted by the Miami Marlins but decided to play collegiately at Purdue University where he had a decorated playing career. He was named to the All-Regional Team and All Big-Ten Tournament team in 2012. He was an All-Big Ten player in 2011 and 2012 while also achieving success in the classroom as an Academic All-Big Ten selection.
The utility player was drafted by the Texas Rangers in 2012 and went on to play three seasons in the minors where he reached the Double-A level.
