ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFKnights.com) – August has arrived and with it comes preseason accolades for Cal Jennings and Louis Perez as the pair have been named to the MAC Hermann Trophy Watch List.
Following a breakout junior campaign that saw him earn a semifinalist nod for the 2018 MAC Hermann Trophy, Jennings is back on the list to open the 2019 campaign. Boosted by a trio of hat tricks, the Roswell, Ga., native was the second leading goal scorer in the NCAA last season as he tallied twenty goals. He also collected the American Athletic Conference Offensive Player of the Year after leading the league in nearly every offensive category and breaking the conference records for most goals and most points registered in a single season. Jennings begins his senior campaign ranked sixth all-time in goals scored with 29 and tied for eighth in UCF program history in points with 71.
Perez netted three goals and tallied five assists during the 2018 campaign that saw him collected The American's Midfielder of the Year. A native of Villennes Sur Seine, France, he scored the game winner in the final regular season game to clinch share of the regular season title and home field advantage for the conference tournament.
Both Jennings and Perez collected a plethora of awards last season. The duo both earned United Soccer Coaches All-America honors in addition to All-East Region First Team and The American First Team laurels.
The duo, who contributed to UCF's 2.32 goals per game - the fifth highest mark in the nation, look to help the Knights defend their American Athletic Conference crown.
The Black and Gold begin their 2019 season with two exhibition matches at home. UCF will face Eastern Florida on August 19 and Florida International on August 24. Both matches begin at 6 p.m.
