Why did you choose UCF?
UCF gave me an opportunity to play a sport I love.
Who was your role model and why?
My father was my role model. He worked for CBS Sports which required a lot of travel covering multiple sports. Growing up I was amazed how he always made it home just in time to see me play. I realize it wasn’t easy for him and it meant the world to me for him to be there.
Profession: Finance/Asset Management
Current location: Tewksbury, NJ
Wife’s name: Carolyn
Children and name: Alexandra
Do your children play sports?
Yes, Alex dabbles in a lot of different sports, but soccer and tennis seem to be staples.
Favorite memory at UCF?
I have so many fond memories of my time at UCF. Having Willie English set the single game rushing record against Arkansas State in their stadium or the playoff win against Youngstown State comes to mind. But I would rather combine all of them into one expression, which was the brotherhood we shared together. We were such a tight knit group that we would literally do anything for one another.
Why do you donate to UCF athletics?
I’ve always felt fortunate that UCF gave me an opportunity to leave New York and play football. Without that opportunity, who knows how I would have turned out.
How did playing at UCF shape you?
Playing for UCF wasn’t easy. Nothing was ever given to you. Coach McDowell was a maker of men! You had to work for everything you got which taught me to never give up, dig deep and always strive to be the best. That translates exceptionally well into life after sports.
Advice for current players?
Enjoy your time together and work hard for one another. Play together as one. The brotherhood I referred to earlier is real. Respect and love are earned in the offseason, on the practice field, and during games.
One word to describe you and why?
Tough question. I would say complex. Like an onion, I have many layers!
How did you get into playing football?
Started at an early age playing Pee Wee football. Growing up in the Berry Homes on Staten Island meant you always had an opportunity to play with the older kids - if you were good enough.
Who was your favorite coach and why?
Gene McDowell. He was a no-nonsense guy and you always knew where you stood with him.
Favorite current player and why?
I love all my younger brothers and want them to be successful on and off the football field but if I had to choose one it would be McKenzie Milton. He has moxy. Undersized coming out of high school, he proved he’s a gamer and can play and compete at the highest level with anyone. More importantly, he’s a great person - always generous with his time and giving back to the community.
What would you tell other alumni to get them to donate?
Giving back to your alma mater is not an option, it’s a must! We were all given the opportunity to get a college degree from an amazing institution and play a sport we love. It’s time to return the favor. Donate what you can, when you can, so you can feel invested in what Athletics and the university are building. We do more with less - always have - but now’s the time to rise up and do your part. Every little bit counts and it’s never too late to start.
Two fun facts about you?
Although I’m serious and some might say dry personality, I really enjoy laughing. I like to mess with people. Still enjoy listening to hip hop and believe the best rapper of all time was the Notorious B.I.G.! 90’s hip hop is the best. East Coast baby.
Final thoughts?
When I reflect on my time at UCF and see how far we’ve come since graduating in 1993, I can’t help but feel an overwhelming sense of pride. UCF means opportunity and I’m living proof. Our growth as a university, our success in the classroom, and our excellence on the field are truly remarkable feats accomplished in a very short period of time. We’re just scratching the surface here and I expect BIG things to come as we continue to reach for the stars!
