ORLANDO – Five recent UCF men’s basketball stars just finished up playing in the 2019 NBA Summer League. Now three not-so-recent Knights are set to show off their skills in The Basketball Tournament with a chance for their teams to take home the $2 million grand prize.
Josh Peppers gets started in regional play this weekend as a member of Florida TNT. The former Knight, who starred in Orlando from 2003-07, has joined forces with other Florida based basketball stars and will take on the Primetime Players in the first round, Friday at 3 p.m. with coverage on ESPN3.
Peppers, an all-conference player with the Knights, is playing in the Greensboro Regional at the Coliseum Complex’s Fieldhouse in Greensboro, N.C. If Florida TNT wins game one, the team will move on to play the winner of Team Hines and Boo Williams on Saturday at 5 p.m. The championship game of the Greensboro Regional is Sunday at 3 p.m.
Keith Clanton and Tristan Spurlock have teamed up as members of DRC, a squad organized by NFL star Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie. Clanton, UCF’s all-time leading rebounder, and Spurlock, who starred for UCF from 2011-14, will open up play next Friday, July 26, against Ram Nation at 8:30 p.m. on ESPN3.
The duo, who played together at UCF, are competing in the Richmond Regional at the Siegel Center in Richmond, Va. If DRC wins their first round game, the team will move on to play the winner of Green Machine and The Web on Saturday, July 27. Sunday, July 28’s championship game is scheduled for noon on ESPN.
If either team makes it through regional play, the eight regional winners will begin quarterfinal action Thursday and Friday, Aug. 1-2 at Wintrust Arena in Chicago. The $2 million championship game is set for Tuesday, Aug. 6 at 9 p.m. on ESPN.
