ORLANDO – Former UCF football star Daunte Culpepper and soccer standout Winston DuBose were announced as members of the 2019 Florida Sports Hall of Fame class on Wednesday in a press conference at Amway Center.
Culpepper starred for the Knights from 1995-98, earning the Sammy Baugh Trophy for national passer of the year and The Sports Network’s National Co-Player of the Year in 1998. As a senior, he set the NCAA single-season record for completion percentage at 73.6.
An All-American at UCF, Culpepper went on to be selected 11th overall in the 1999 NFL Draft, the Knights’ first player to be picked in the first round. He enjoyed an 11-year career in the NFL, appearing in three Pro Bowls and leading the league in touchdown passes in 2000 and passing yards in 2004.
DuBose played soccer at UCF when it was still named Florida Technological University from 1973-76. He earned All-America accolades as a goalkeeper, before embarking on a professional career from 1978-91. He played for both the Tampa Bay Rowdies and the Tulsa Roughnecks.
A native of Winter Park, Fla., DuBose was a multiple-time all-star in several professional soccer leagues and made 14 appearances for the United States National Team.
The 58th Florida Sports Hall of Fame induction ceremony will take place on Tuesday, Nov. 12 at the Amway Center in downtown Orlando. Ticket and sponsorship information can be found at http://FlaSportsHOF.org.
