ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFKnights.com) – The UCF baseball team sent its fifth player to the professional ranks in 2019, as Matthew Mika signed a free agent deal with the Milwaukee Brewers.
Mika will head out for the next level after anchoring the Knights for the last four years. The Lake Worth, Fla., native had the best season of his career in 2019. The senior hit .319 with 34 RBI over the course of 58 games. Mika closed the year ranked 17th in the nation in stolen bases with 31 stolen bases, the 10th most in a single season in program history.
He recorded 20 multi-hit games and eight multi-RBI outings, including a career-high four-RBI performance at Wichita State.
Mika wrapped up his career as one of the most prolific players in program history ranked fifth in games started 219, seventh in at-bats with 818, ninth in stolen base percentage at .829, third in stolen bases with 87, third in most stolen base attempts with 105, sixth in assists with 441, and 8th with 90 double plays turned.
Mika joined Chris Williams, the first free agent signee this year, and draftees Tyler Osik, Jordan Spicer and Garrett Westberg in the pro ball.
He is the 15th Knight to turn pro in the Greg Lovelady era, the most by any coach at UCF in his first three years.
