Williams Signs Free Agent Deal with Arizona

ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFKnights.com) – After one of the best four-year pitching careers in UCF history, Chris Williams will get his shot at the professional levels with the Arizona Diamondbacks, after the redshirt senior signed a free agent deal with the organization on Sunday.

Williams posted a 6-5 record in 2019 over 12 starts. The righty was efficient on the mound with a team-high 70 strikeouts and a conference-low 13 walks. The 5.38 strikeout-to-walk ratio and 1.60 walks allowed per nine innings led the nation and ranked in the top 40 nationally.

The Fort Lauderdale, Fla., native finished his career with a 16-12 record and 3.60 ERA. He became just the 11th player in program history to strike out 200 batters in a career. He matched the program record with eight combined shutouts over a career and finished seventh in program history with a 2.01 walks allowed per nine innings mark.

Williams is the fourth Knight from the 2019 squad to be picked up by an organization, after Jordan Spicer (24th, Colorado), Garrett Westberg (26th, Seattle) and Tyler Osik (27th, Chicago White Sox) were tabbed in the MLB Draft.
