ORLANDO – Another former Knight continues to play well following the 2018-19 season, as Kyler Tate recently advanced through local qualifying to sectionals for the Open Championship.
Tate shot a three-under par 69 at Burhill Golf Club to earn a qualifying spot. Final Qualifying will take place on Tuesday, July 2, when Tate will play 36 holes for the chance to compete at the Open Championship.
There are 12 spots available for the 148th Open Championship at Royal Portrush, which will take place July 14-21 in Northern Ireland at the Dunluce Links.
While with the Knights, Tate earned all-conference honors in 2018 and 2019 and advanced to the NCAA Regionals three times. In 2017 and 2018 he helped lead the Knights to back-to-back appearances in the NCAA National Championships.
