Moon Takes Runner-Up Honors at FSGA Amateur

BRADENTON, Fla. (UCFKnights.com) – Elizabeth Moon earned runner-up honors at the 90th Annual Florida State Golf Association Women’s Amateur Championship over the weekend. The rising sophomore made her way through two rounds of stroke play and four match-play wins, before falling in the championship.

The 2019 American Athletic Conference Freshman of the Year punched her ticket to the match-play rounds after finishing tied for 11th in stroke play out of 134 competitors. Moon bounced back after a first round 3-over, 75, to fire off an even-par, 72, in the second round.

In the Round of 64, Moon easily dispatched Sabrina Andolpho from Barry University, 4 and 3, after leading the entirety of the round. The Forrest City, Ark., native then downed Jieming Yang in the Round of 32, 3 and 2, to reach the Round of 16.

Facing Wyndom Burnett in her third match-play round, Moon sailed into the quaterfinals with a 6 and 4 victory. With a spot in the final four on the online against Lauren Clark, she took control of the match on the eighth and never looked back to win 3 and 1.

Moon then found herself down through the front nine in her semifinals match against Georgia Ruffolo. The All-Conference selection in The American evened things up on the 11th and took the lead for good on the 15th to reach the championship round.

The championship match was riddled with rain delays on Sunday afternoon. Moon carried a lead on the back nine, but she could not stop a late surge by former TCU golfer Emmy Martin who clinched the title on the final hole.
