Dawkins Completes Roster with Brandon Mahan

ORLANDO – UCF head coach Johnny Dawkins made one final addition to his roster this offseason with the signing of former Texas A&M guard Brandon Mahan, Dawkins announced on Monday.

Mahan, a 6-foot-5 guard, will sit out the 2019-20 season due to NCAA transfer rules and then be able to play his final two seasons with the Knights. The Birmingham, Alabama native spent his freshman year at Chipola College and then played one season with the Aggies.

“We’re excited to bring a player of Brandon’s caliber on board,” Dawkins said. “He’s an experienced player with plenty of versatility, and is a talented shooter from the perimeter. We can’t wait to get Brandon on campus and start workouts with the team.”

Mahan played in 31 games as a sophomore at Texas A&M. He started 20 times, averaging 5.9 points, while shooting 38.4 percent from three-point range and grabbing 91 rebounds from the guard position.

His best offensive outing was at Ole Miss when he put up 20 points on 6-of-7 from beyond the arc. He knocked down multiple three-pointers 11 times on the season.

While at Chipola College as a freshman, Mahan led his squad to a 22-8 record and an appearance in the NJCAA Region 8 State Championship Final, averaging 14.1 points and 5.1 rebounds per game, while shooting 50.9 percent from the field and 50.3 percent from long distance.

After sitting out the 2019-20 season, Mahan will look to play a pivotal role in replacing fellow newcomers, graduate transfers Matt Milon and Dazon Ingram, as well as senior sharpshooter Frank Bertz.

The new-look Knights are coming off of the best season in program history, advancing to the Second Round of the NCAA Tournament and finishing 24-9 overall. This year’s squad aims to keep the momentum going under Dawkins, who begins his fourth year at the helm this winter.
