ORLANDO (UCFKnights.com) - NCAA Championship appearances by UCF in men’s and women’s tennis, women’s golf and women’s rowing positioned UCF in 54th place in the second set of spring sports standings released in the 2018-19 Learfield IMG Sports Division I College Directors' Cup all-sports competition sponsored by the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics.
Spring sports competition for UCF totaled 179 points—64 from a third-round appearance in the NCAA Women’s Tennis Championship, 52 from a 22nd-place finish in the NCAA Women’s Golf Championship, 38 from an 18th-place finish in the NCAA Women’s Rowing Championship (tied for the best UCF finish in history in that event) and 25 from a first-round appearance in the NCAA Men’s Tennis Championship.
The Knights’ winter sports produced 75 points—50 from a second-round appearance in the NCAA Men’s Basketball Championship and 25 from a first-round appearance in the NCAA Women’s Basketball Championship.
Fall NCAA competition earned the UCF 139.5 points—64.5 from its final number-12 ranking in the USA Today football poll, 50 from a second-round appearance in the NCAA Men’s Soccer Championship and 25 from a first-round appearance in the NCAA Women’s Volleyball Championship.
The 393.5 total points represent the second most in UCF history—behind only the 2011-12 season when the Knights recorded 409 points to finish 55th. This marks the first time UCF has scored points in nine sports (the previous high was eight in that same 2011-12 season). UCF is the only FBS program in the country that had each of its sports produce winning records (among the 10 Knights sports with win-loss records) in both 2017-18 and 2018-19.
Among American Athletic Conference programs in 2018-19, UCF currently ranks first, ahead of Navy (67th with 301 points), Houston (75th with 267.83) and Connecticut (80th with 240.5).
Among the 22 FBS institutions that sponsor 16 sports, the top two scorers are Vanderbilt (51st with 421.5 points) and UCF.
The current standings include results from NCAA fall competition in football, men’s water polo, women’s field hockey, men’s and women’s soccer, women’s volleyball, along with men's and women's cross country—plus winter competition in men’s and women’s basketball, fencing, rifle, skiing, men’s and women’s indoor track and field, wrestling, men’s and women’s ice hockey, men’s and women’s swimming and diving, women’s bowling and men’s and women’s gymnastics—and spring competition in men’s and women’s golf, men’s and women’s tennis, men’s and women’s lacrosse, women’s rowing, men’s volleyball, women’s water polo and beach volleyball.
The next spring sports standings will be published June 12 and and the final numbers will be available either June 27 or 28.
