JACKSONVILLE (UCFKnights.com) – On the opening day of the NCAA East Preliminary Round, the UCF track and field team advanced one to the quarterfinal in the 100-meter dash at Hodges Stadium in Jacksonville.
In her regional debut, Ciara Holback advanced to Saturday’s quarterfinal in the 100-meter dash. As one of the top three finishers in her heat, she earned an automatic berth to the quarterfinals with a mark of 11.54.
“It was a good day for Ciara,” UCF head coach Dana Boone said. “For her to come to her first NCAA preliminary round and advance to the next round, that’s a good start for her. We’re looking forward to see what happens tomorrow with the 100 and the first round of the 200. Hopefully she’ll do well again.”
Shaniya Williams finished 35th overall in the 100m with a time of 11.80. Gabby Durant closed out her UCF career with a 190-4 mark in the hammer throw, putting her 29th overall.
Holback will race at 6 p.m. in the 100m and 7:30 p.m. in the first round of the 200-meter dash. Zharia Moore starts Friday action for the Knights in the 100-meter hurdles at 4:30 p.m.
