Zeleva Ready for the NCAA Singles Tournament

ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFKnights.com) – Redshirt sophomore Valeriya Zeleva is set to begin her run at the 2019 NCAA Singles Championship today as she will take on Julia Rosenqvist of California at 4 p.m. Her match will be part of the Tennis Channel’s airing of the first round of the NCAA Singles Championship.

No. 40 Zeleva had a tremendous dual match season, earning a record of 18-6 as UCF’s top singles player, which was tied for the highest spring win total on the team. Zeleva has faced some elite competition this season and proved that she belongs with the best of them, posting a 10-6 record against ranked opponents.

Zeleva has added a few accolades to her trophy case from her first season at UCF. She was named the Most Outstanding Player in the American Athletic Conference Tournament after going 2-0, topping two ranked opponents. She was also named as the AAC’s Player of the Year and selected to be part of the AAC All-Conference Team.

Zeleva will square off with the player directly below her in the Oracle/ITA rankings as California’s No. 41 Julia Rosenqvist will stare across the net at her in the first round. Rosenqvist is Cal’s No. 1 singles player, where she has posted an 8-11 record. She added one additional win at the No. 2 spot.
