Decamps Set for NCAA Singles Competition

ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFKnights.com) – Sophomore Gabriel Decamps is set to begin his journey in the 2019 NCAA Singles Championships today as he will face off against UC Santa Barbara’s Joseph Guillin at 12:30 p.m.

No. 43 Decamps is ready for a run at the NCAA Singles Championship. With UCF having played many elite programs this year, Decamps has gotten a chance to compete with some of the best college tennis players. His statement victory came in a comeback effort against No. 4 Florida where Decamps dropped an early first set to No. 9 Oliver Crawford but came back to win 2-6, 6-3, 6-3.

Decamps has only gotten a chance to finish five of his last twelve matches, posting a 2-3 record in that time. He was in position to win many more over that 12-match stretch. Decamps posted a 6-8 record in the spring, but earned a record of 18-9 over the course of the 2018-2019 season. That means Decamps had a 12-1 record in the fall tournament season, where he played in many events similar to the one he is about to participate in.

UC Santa Barbara’s No. 53 Guillin sits with a record of 23-11 in the 2018-2019 campaign, which is tied for the team lead. In the dual match season, he went 11-6, playing primarily at the No. 2 position where he gathered a 9-4 record. He posted a record of 2-2 at the No. 1 spot and in total compiled a 6-5 record against nationally ranked opponents. His best win of the season came over No. 48 Clement Marzol of South Alabama in straight sets.
