UCF Extends 3.0 GPA Streak to 23 Semesters

ORLANDO (UCFKnights.com) – The record-setting streak in the classroom continues for UCF Athletics, as the Knights extended their streak to 23 consecutive semesters with a department grade-point average of 3.0 or better.

UCF student-athletes compiled a 3.24 GPA for the spring of 2019, which is the fifth-highest in program history.

Now at 23 consecutive semesters, UCF student-athletes have extended the longest streak of achieving at least a 3.0 GPA as a department in school history. In all, 14 teams had a combined GPA of 3.0 or better this spring.

"Our student-athletes continue to excel in the classroom and in their respective sports," said Tara Helton, Assistant Athletics Director, Academics. "They truly exemplify the term student-athlete. We here at ASSA are so thankful to be able to work with such dedicated and committed student-athletes. Our success in the classroom continues to show the level of commitment put forth here at UCF, not only by the student-athletes and ASSA, but also by the coaching staffs and administration."

Since Vice President and Director of Athletics Danny White's arrival in Orlando, the Knights have not turned in a semester below a 3.0, starting at 3.01 in the spring of 2016, followed by 3.15, 3.27 and 3.31. UCF set a program record for a 3.33 GPA in the spring of 2018, followed by 3.29 and 3.24 GPAs during the 2018-19 academic year. The top five marks in school history have come over the last five semesters as the Knights continued to win championships in their field of competition.

This semester, 64 percent (259) of student-athletes achieved at least a 3.0 GPA and 30 Knights (7%) recorded a perfect 4.0 GPA.

Two teams set or tied a new program record for semester GPA this spring:

  • Softball, 3.66
  • Rowing, 3.49

The men's tennis team earned the highest GPA of all the men's programs with a 3.35. The softball team's 3.66 GPA was the best among women's programs at UCF.

The Knights continue to be among the top schools in the nation, the state and the American Athletic Conference in regard to APR. The UCF women's tennis program achieved a perfect 1000 multi-year score for the eighth straight year, joining the Knights' football team (987) last week in earning NCAA Public Recognition Awards for ranking in the top 10 percent of APR for their sports. Three UCF programs rank No. 1 in the state of Florida among Football Bowl Subdivision programs (UCF, USF, Florida, Florida State, Miami, Florida Atlantic, Florida International)--football, women’s rowing and women's tennis.
