GAINESVILLE, Fla. (UCFKNights.com) – The UCF track and field team is off to another strong start, this time after the first day of the Tom Jones Memorial at Percy Beard Track at James G. Pressly Stadium.
Shanell Atkins started the day off on a high note, setting a personal-best in the discus at 147-10/45.-06m for ninth place.
A pair of Knights in the 800-meter run kept the momentum going, as Katie Pinnell and Charlotte Crook each turned in personal best marks that placed them in the top 10. Pinnell crossed the line in 2:09.39 for seventh while Crook took ninth in 2:09.90.
Nearly every Knight competitor in the 200-meter dash set a personal outdoor best. Ciara Holback (23.71), Loren Gallmon (23.84), Shaniya Williams (23.92), Sarah Wollaston (24.40), Samieryah Bradwell (24.49), Ashley Nelson (25.52), Asia Gonzalez (25.86) and Jayda Drake-Howard (26.02) all improved their marks in the outdoor event.
UCF added a pair of top 10 finishes in the 400-meter hurdles as Devin D’Oliveira finished sixth in 59.55 and Daneesha Davidson finished eighth in 1:00.92.
D’Oliveira added a second top 10 finish with a personal best in the long jump. The Pembroke Pines native landed at 19-3.5/5.88m on her first attempt of the day, carrying her to a 10th place finish.
UCF returns to action on Saturday at the Tom Jones Memorial.
