Knights Conclude Tom Jones Memorial

GAINESVILLE, Fla. (UCFKNights.com) – The UCF track and field team closed out the Tom Jones Memorial strong at Percy Beard Track at James G. Pressly Stadium.

“It was a really great weekend for this team,” UCF head coach Dana Boone said. “We had a lot of improvements happen. As we head into conference, I feel pretty good about training and where we are as a team. We will finish up with finals this coming week and be able to just focus on training for the postseason. I’m pleased with our progress so far.”

For the second time this weekend, Shanell Atkins turned in a personal best, this time improving her mark in the hammer throw to 166-10/50.85m. She was joined by Jhane’ Carter (186-3/56.77m) and Gabby Durant (185-3/56.47m) in the top 10.

Victoria Jung continued her strong junior campaign, turning in a personal-best time of 4:36.16 in the 1500-meter run to finish 10th overall in the event.

In the preliminary of the 100-meter hurdles, Zharia Moore used a season-best mark of 13.75 to advance to the finals. Moore lowered her mark yet again to finish seventh overall in 13.46, which is the second-fastest mark in The American this season.

Daneesha Davidson improved her personal best mark in the triple jump, landing at 41-0.25/12.50m on her first attempt of the day.

Closing out the weekend, UCF’s 4x4 relay squad of Devin D’Oliveira, Shian Hyde, Samieryah Bradwell and Loren Gallmon turned in a season-best mark of 3:37.35 to finish fourth. Their mark – the first time the squad has broken the 3:40 mark this season – is the fastest 4x4 time among American Athletic Conference competitors.

UCF will now take a break before heading to Wichita, Kan. for the 2019 American Athletic Conference Championship May 10-12.
