Pavel/Hilderbrand Climb to #14, Team at #29

ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFKnights.com) – The UCF men’s tennis team checks in at No. 29 in the latest release of the Oracle/ITA rankings.

The Knights kept their sweep streak going from the regular season into their first and second matches, downing the SMU Mustangs and Wichita State Shockers. The Knights extended the point streak into the championship match, winning the first two points. The streak would end at 25 consecutive points won when USF picked up a singles victory.

In singles, Gabriel Decamps remains in the rankings and check in at No. 41 this week. Decamps fell in a close match to the No. 18 player in the nation his last time out.

In doubles, the dynamic duo of Bogdan Pavel and Trey Hilderbrand continue to win, as they’ve won nine straight matches to propel themselves to No. 14 in the rankings, two spots higher than last week. During that nine-match winning streak, the pair has defeated eight ranked opponents beginning on March 10 against No. 2 Wake Forest’s top duo. Pavel and Hilderbrand are 15-3 on the year and 8-1 against ranked pairs.

The Knights await their fate on whether they will make the NCAA Tournament. With UCF not winning the conference championship, they are not guaranteed a spot. They can still make the tournament with an at-large bid. The Black and Gold will find out their fate on Monday, April 29 when the NCAA reveals the bracket.
