ATLANTA, Ga. (UCFKnights.com) – The UCF track and field team closed out the Georgia Tech Invitational with a pair of event titles on Saturday.
Ciara Holback brought home the 200-meter dash title. UCF’s 4x4 squad closed out the weekend with a second title for the Black and Gold.
“The conditions this weekend were not ideal, but we lined up and competed,” UCF head coach Dana Boone said. “Most of the team had great attitudes and approached the meet positively. This is important as we head into championship season. We need to learn to line up and compete hard, no matter the weather. We have one more meet next week before the championship season, so we will look to fine tune some things and get ready to make our postseason run.”
One day after tallying 10 Top 10 finishes, the Knights added 13 more on Saturday.
Shanell Atkins turned in a pair of fourth-place performances in the shot put and discus. The junior used a personal-best mark of 140-1/42.71 to claim fourth in the discus.
Daneesha Davidson posted her fourth-straight 40-plus foot mark in the triple jump, finishing fourth at 40-6.25/12.35m.
Jhane’ Carter was just four inches shy of her season-best mark in the shot put, taking third with 47-6.5/14.49m. Gabby Durant (43-5.75/13.25m) joined Carter and Atkins in the top 10 of the shot put and Soteria Russell (133-11/40.83m) joined Atkins in the top 10 of the discus.
Joining Holback (23.95) in the top 10 of the 100m were Sarah Wollaston (24.58) and Shaniya Williams (24.72). Briana Potter (37-11.5/11.57m) posted an eighth place finish to join Davidson in the triple jump top 10.
The Knights finished third in the 4x100 meter relay and Samieryah Bradwell (56.75) finished eighth in the 400-meter dash.
UCF returns to action at the Tom Jones Invitational April 26-27 in Gainesville.
