ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFKnights.com) – The UCF rowing team is in South Carolina this weekend for the Clemson Invitational.
The Knights will compete at the two-day event for the fifth consecutive year, racing against 20 other teams from 19 states at the seventh installment of the invitational.
For the second straight weekend, the Black and Gold will line up against a solid field. This season, 18 of the 21 squads have been ranked or received votes in the CRCA/USRowing Coaches Poll. This weekend, six teams are ranked – No. 10 Virginia, No. 12 Wisconsin, No. 17 Duke, No. 18 Oregon State, No. 19 Syracuse and No 20 Alabama. Joining the Knights among the teams receiving votes in the latest poll are UCLA, Louisville, Minnesota, Oklahoma, Penn and Washington State.
The Knights will again wear teal down the course in honor of former Clemson rower Brittany Burns, who passed away after a short but hard-fought battle with ovarian cancer in 2016. Teal is the color that symbolizes the fight against ovarian cancer.
On Friday, all six of the events will be split into three heats. Racing begins Friday morning at 8:30 a.m. and the last race of the morning session day will begin at 10:30 a.m. The evening session will commence at 5:00 p.m. and conclude after the final race at 7:00 p.m.
Based on Friday’s performances, the teams will be sent into the A, B or C Final on Saturday. Racing will begin at 8:30 a.m.
Following the Clemson Invitational, the Knights travel to North Carolina for the Lake Wheeler Invitational April 26-27.
