Dawkins Signs Three for 2019-20

ORLANDO (UCFKnights.com) –UCF head coach Johnny Dawkins announced the addition of three student-athletes to the UCF basketball program on Thursday, as Tony Johnson Jr., Avery Diggs and Moses Bol all signed on to join the Knights for the 2019-20 season.

Johnson, an incoming freshman out of Eufaula, Ala., is coming off of a stellar year at The Skill Factory in Atlanta. The 6-foot-3 point guard averaged 20.4 points, 5.2 rebounds and 4.3 assists per game in 2018-19.

“We’re very excited about bringing Tony on board,” Dawkins said. “He’s a hard-worker and a gym rat, and he has the potential to develop into a leader for us. He’s physically ready to come in and contribute right away. We’re looking forward to getting Tony on campus.”

Diggs, a 6-foot-10, 240 pound post comes to UCF after one season at Southwest Mississippi College. The Brandon, Fla., native averaged 10.3 points, 5.3 rebounds and 1.4 blocked shots per game, while shooting 58.6 percent from the field and 72.2 percent from the free throw line.

“Avery is another guy we’re certainly excited about,” Dawkins said. “He’s a skilled big with a high basketball IQ. He’s a true five who can step out and shoot it. He’s got a high upside and should fit in well here. We can’t wait to get started with Avery.”

Another big man who is now a Knight, the 7-foot-1 Bol spent the last two seasons at Colby Community College in Kansas. Bol originally hails from Wau, Sudan and averaged 5.2 points, 5.7 rebounds and 2.2 blocks per game as a sophomore in 2018-19.

“We love the potential we see in Moses,” Dawkins said. “He’s got good speed and runs the floor really well for a guy his size. That will really help us at the tempo we want to play at. He’s obviously already a really good shot blocker and we are excited to get started working with him.”

The trio joins Darin Green Jr., who signed during the early period this fall. Dawkins believes this is a great group that can help continue to positive momentum UCF has had the last three years.

“This group solidifies positions of need for us going into next season,” Dawkins said. “The future is bright with the contributions they’ll be able to make. They’re all great kids and will be good all-around student-athletes, so we’re excited to have them all join the UCF family.”
