ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFKnights.com) – The No. 27 UCF women’s tennis team swept their double header on Friday, defeating the Tulane Green Wave 4-1 and the Miami Red Hawks 7-0. The two victories extends UCF’s winning streak to ten matches.
"It's great any time you can get two wins in a day," said head coach Bryan Koniecko, "Every team is good, if we don't take them seriously and don't show up you're going to find yourself deep into sets where you don't want to be. We did a good job in singles today, I thought everyone competed hard and did what they had to do. For doubles I think we just have to figure out a couple of things, I don't think its anything major."
MATCH ONE: Tulane vs. No. 27 UCF
Doubles court three was the first to finish. Here, UCF’s Marie Mattel and Nandini Sharma defeated Adelaide Lavery and Alex Alegre 6-2. Tulane would strike back on court one, where No. 18 Ksenia Kuznetsova and Valeriya Zeleva and fell to No. 62 Elena Muller and Ivone Alvaro 6-4. The Green Wave would take the doubles point on court two as Laura Fabrizi and Daniela La Fuente edged Natalia Serrano and Domenika Turkovic 6-4.
Singles play saw Sharma make quick work of Christina Sisti on court five. Sharma picked up her tenth win by a count of 6-0, 6-1.
Next to finish was No. 27 Zeleva. At the No. 1 position, she bested Muller 6-3, 6-1. Just moments later, Sara Culbertson finished her match with Lavery on court six. Culbertson got the best of Lavery, triumphing over her 6-1, 6-0.
The match was clinched as No. 70 Kuznetsova won her first match as a ranked singles player in 2019. She topped La Fuente 6-3, 6-2.
The match would end at the clincher, seeing only courts three and four unfinished. Serrano won her first set over Fabrizi 7-5 and saw the second set tied at 4-4 on court three. Turkovic won her first set over Alvaro 6-4. The match ended with Alvaro ahead 5-2 in set two.
MATCH TWO: Miami (OH) vs. No. 27 UCF
The match began with Sharma and Mattel taking doubles court two by a score of 6-0 over Melati Devi and Jordan Ortega-Mendez. Today was the first time Mattel and Sharma had ever played as a doubles pair and they dominated both matches they played. The doubles clincher would come on court three where Serrano and Turkovic bested Brindtha Ramasmy and Makenzie Myers 7-5. Court one’s match went unfinished. No. 18 Zeleva and Kuznetsova were up 6-5 on Milana Lysova and Priyana Kalita.
Sharma continued her winning ways on the day as she was the first to clinch a singles match against Miami of Ohio. She took down Kalita 6-1, 6-0 on court four.
Turkovic was next to finish as she topped Myers on court four by a count of 6-2, 6-2. The clincher would come from court six where Culbertson would defeat Melati Devi 6-4, 6-1.
With the match clinched, the two sides would play out the remainder of the courts. Serrano got a win on court three, her first at that position. She downed Ortega-Mendez 6-1, 6-3. No. 27 Zeleva would pick up another victory on the season as she topped Ramasamy 6-2, 7-5. The final court to finish would be court two where No. 70 Kuznetsova beat Lysova 6-4, 6-3.

The Knights will host Pennsylvania on Sunday at noon. UCF will look to pick up their eleventh straight win in the match.
