CLEARWATER, Fla. (UCFKnights.com) – The UCF softball team picked up two more wins on the season after posting two shutouts Friday afternoon against Seton Hall and Saint Joseph’s in the opening games of the USF Clearwater Tournament.
The Knights took care of Seton Hall in five innings with a 9-0 shutout and then followed with a 3-0 win over Saint Joseph’s.
Kaitlyn Jensen and Tamesha Glover both delivered home runs on offense in the wins, while Alea White and Breanna Vasquez each threw complete game shutouts and allowed just two hits each.
UCF improves to 15-7 after going 2-0 on the day.
Things You Need To Know:
- White tossed a two-hitter against Seton Hall striking out seven and walking four. White improves to 9-5 on the season.
- Vasquez also threw a two-hitter in the win over Saint Joseph’s, while striking out four. Allowing just two hits is her fewest hits allowed by the freshman this season. The rookie improves to 6-2 overall.
- At the plate, Erin Emanuel collected three hits, three runs, and two RBI on the day along with a stolen base.
- Tamesha Glover, Karissa Ornelas, and Denali Schappacher each tallied two hits Friday with Ornelas adding a double and Glover both a triple and a double. Glover’s slugging percentage was 1.167 on the day.
- UCF stole four bases thanks to Emanuel, Schappacher, Glover, and Kyra Klarkowski.
- As a team, the Black and Gold racked up 14 hits, 12 runs, and hit .304.
- The Knights kept their Friday opponents to a .108 batting average scoring zero runs and just four hits.
Scoring:
Game 1 – vs Seton Hall
UCF: 3-0 | 1ST | Cassady Brewer laid down a bunt to move Glover and Schappacher up and Schappacher was able to score, while Brewer and Glover moved up to second and third. Hayley Bejarano laid down a sacrifice bunt to score Glover then Ornelas followed with a single to plate Brewer.
UCF: 5-0 | 2nd | After Klarkowski drew a walk and stole second, Emanuel singled through the right side to bring in Klarkowski. Schappacher followed rifling a single up the middle to plate Emanuel.
UCF: 9-0 | 4th | Klarkowski led off the inning with a triple left center and Emanuel immediately followed with a single up the middle to bring Klarkowski in. Emanuel moved around the bases and scored on a series of wild pitches. Glover tripled to right field to get on base for Jensen who homered to straight-away center for two more runs.
Game 2 – vs Saint Joseph’s
UCF: 2-0 | 3rd | After Emanuel drew a walk, Glover homered to right field.
UCF: 3-0 | 5th | Glover reached on a single then stole second to get in scoring position. Jazmine Esparza ripped a single up the middle bringing Glover in.
