ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFKnights.com) – The UCF women’s tennis team went 1-0 this weekend, but fell nine spots in the Oracle/ITA rankings released on Tuesday. The Knights now sit at No. 27 in the nation as a team.
UCF has won eight straight matches with a chance to make it eleven this weekend. The only new result from the last rankings that had UCF at an all-time high No. 18 position was a dominating 6-1 win over Yale.
On a positive note, Valeriya Zeleva climbed in the singles rankings. She checks in two spots higher at No. 27. While no longer perfect, Zeleva has played quality competition and come out on top the majority of the time at the number one spot in the lineup. She is 6-2 against ranked opponents on the season, having only played ranked opposition since the last edition of the rankings came out. Zeleva is 10-2 on the season.
Ksenia Kuznetsova makes her debut in the singles rankings at No. 70. Kuznetsova was named the AAC Player of the Week last week as she went 3-0 at the No. 2 position in the lineup. She added a win on Sunday against Yale to make her record 7-2 at the second position. Since the last singles rankings were released, Kuznetsova has earned a ranked win over the No. 33 player in the nation.
The duo’s tandem of Zeleva and Kuznetsova climbs from No. 22 to No. 18 in the doubles rankings. The duo had gone 8-0 to start the season before dropping their most recent doubles match to a ranked opponent.
