Pavel Named AAC Player of the Week

ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFKnights.com) – After an impressive weekend where he went 2-0 in singles and 1-0 in doubles, freshman Bogdan Pavel has been named American Athletic Conference Player of the Week.

Pavel began the year hovering between the fourth, fifth, and sixth spots in the singles lineup. This weekend, he got the nod to start at the No. 2 position in all three matches. On Friday, Pavel picked up a straight set victory against Bethune-Cookman’s number two, winning 6-1, 6-0. He was in good position to win again in the second match of the double header as he was up 6-3, 2-0 when the match was clinched.

Sunday was College Matchday against the No. 29 Miami Hurricanes. Pavel got the start at the No. 1 spot in doubles with Trey Hilderbrand, where they have spent much of the season together. UCF’s top duo downed Miami’s No. 1 pair by a score of 6-4 to start off the doubles segment as the Knights would later clinch the doubles point. Pavel and Hilderbrand now sit at 6-2 together at the top doubles position on the season.

In singles play, Pavel again got the start at the No. 2 spot where he faced Francisco Bastias. Pavel won in straight sets, downing Bastias 6-2, 6-3. He was the first singles court to finish as he set the tone for UCF early in College MatchDay. The Knights would later go on to win College MatchDay 4-0 over No. 29 Miami.

UP NEXT
The Knights begin their AAC slate on Wednesday against No. 39 Tulane. Friday, UCF will match up with No. 36 Penn State before taking on the defending National Champions No. 2 Wake Forest on Sunday.
