UCF and Bai Take First in FAU Invitational

BOCA RATON, Fla. (UCFKnights.com) – The UCF men’s golf team won their second tournament of the year with a record performance at the FAU Spring Championship Sunday afternoon.

The Knights shot a program-best 268(-20) to secure their tournament win in the final round. The team’s three-day total of 829(-35) is the second-lowest 54-hole total in program history.

Bobby Bai took first overall with a third-round score of 66(-6) to tie the program record for lowest individual 54-hole total with 200(-16). Bai led the field for the majority of the weekend with rounds of 67-67-66. The junior totaled 20 birdies over the course of the weekend and was the best golfer on all par fours shooting 10-under.

Bai’s total is second-lowest in the tournament’s history, just one stroke from tying the record. UCF’s 829 stroke total is also the second-lowest in the history of the tournament.

Kyler Tate started and ended the day in second place overall, just four strokes back from Bai. Tate shot 70-67-67 for a 204(-12) finish. Tate finished with 17 birdies in his second-straight second place finish.

This is the second consecutive top two finish for both Bai and Tate. This is Tate’s fourth top-five finish of the year and Bai’s third.

Clement Charmasson shot a 69(-3) Sunday afternoon, one stroke shy of tying his career-best, to finish tied for 18th overall with a 213(-3) tournament total. Tommy Cao also shot a 69(-3) in the third round for a 215(-1) total and a tied for 21st place finish. Cao’s round three score ties his career-high.

Pedro Lencart Silva shot his career-low round of 68(-5) to close out the tournament. Lencart Silva tallied eight birdies to jump up 33 spots to finish tied for 21st place with teammate, Cao. Lencart Silva capped of the tournament with a 215(-1).

Colin Kresl, who competed as an individual, had a career-best day shooting 67(-5) for a 211(-5) tournament total. Kresl finished tied for 12th overall, his career-best finish.

The Knights led all teams in total birdies with 75. UCF was also the best team on par-fours with a stroke average of 3.83 strokes per par-four and went 25-under on the weekend. The squad was the second-best team on par-fives shooting 14-under for a stroke average of 4.77.

UCF beat out 13 other teams including UConn, giving the Knights a 4-1 record this year against American Athletic Conference opponents.
