Knights Post Solid Showing at Florida Relays

GAINESVILLE, Fla. (UCFKnights.com) – The UCF track and field team closed out action at the Pepsi Florida Relays at Percy Beard Track with another strong showing on Saturday.

 

“It was a good weekend for the distance events and the 4x4,” head coach Dana Boone said. “I was pleased with the effort of both of these areas! We will take the week off and line back up in two weeks.”

 

The Knights’ distance group continued its strong weekend with a top 10 finish in the 4x800 relay. The squad of Kaitlyn Soltis, Katie Pinnell, Victoria Jung and Charlotte Crook posted a sixth-place finish with UCF’s fastest mark in the event this season at 8:49.56.

 

UCF’s 4x1 squad of Shaniya Williams, Ciara Holback, Beyonce Defreitas and Shian Hyde raced to a 13th place finish in the afternoon session. The Knights posted a time of 44.75, giving them the top two times in the American Athletic Conference in the event this season.

 

The Knights also posted a trio of top 25 finishes in the field events on Saturday. Daneesha Davidson landed at 40-8.75/12.41m on her first attempt in the triple jump, setting a new personal best and carrying her to a 20th place finish in the event.

 

Gabby Durant finished 12th in the hammer throw and Jhane’ Carter finished 22nd in the shot put.

 

UCF will take a week off from competition before heading to the Miami Invitational April 12-13.
