Stolmar Awarded AAC Player of the Week

ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFKnights.com) – After another phenomenal week on the court for UCF, Sophomore Rebeka Stolmar has been named the American Athletic Conference Player of the Week.

Stolmar went 2-0 in singles and 2-0 in doubles this weekend and came in clutch in both matches. The week opened with Stolmar clinching the match against conference opponent Tulsa. She won in straight sets over Vera Ploner at the No. 3 position in the lineup 6-2, 6-3. The Knights would eventually go on to win 6-1 over Tulsa.

Sunday’s match saw one of UCF’s toughest opponents this season in #34 Illinois pay a visit. The Knights took a 3-1 lead in the match. Two of the three remaining courts were in third sets that were up for grabs. The only other match to not get to a third set was Stolmar’s match on court three. With the match in danger of getting out of hand, Stolmar came back from down 2-5 in the second set to win in a tiebreaker to clinch the match.

In doubles, Stolmar was just as clutch, clinching the double point in both matches with her partner Marie Mattel. They won both matches with ease, winning 6-2 and 6-3.

Stolmar is the fourth Knight this season to earn Player of the Week honors. Valeriya Zeleva, Ksenia Kuznetsova and Nandini Sharma have all won the award this spring.
