ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFKnights.com) – The UCF women’s tennis team received new rankings as a team on Tuesday afternoon. Their singles and doubles players also received new numbers as well.
The Knights climb two spots in this week’s rankings and check in at No. 26 in the Oracle/ITA rankings. UCF has done nothing but win recently, stringing together 13 consecutive victories. Since the last release of the team rankings, the Knights have gone 2-0, defeating two conference opponents.
As for individual rankings, Valeriya Zeleva and Ksenia Kuznetsova are still ranked in both singles and doubles. The Knights have played five matches since the last release of the singles and doubles rankings which were unveiled on March 5.
Zeleva has gone 3-1 since that time but has fallen to No. 41 in the singles rankings. Her only loss came at the hands of a ranked opponent (No. 111) in straight sets. In the three matches that she won, Zeleva was victorious in straight sets. Her most recent match went unfinished; she had won the first set and was winning the second. Zeleva still remains as the highest ranked American Athletic Conference singles player.
Kuznetsova has had a phenomenal season to this point and has continued to thrive over the last two weeks. She went 4-0 since the last singles rankings were released. Each win came with relative ease as Kuznetsova was victorious in straight sets. One of those wins came over a ranked opponent, as Kuznetsova defeated No. 46 SMU’s Liza Buss who was ranked No. 114 in the rankings. Despite all of that, Kuznetsova has dropped a few ticks to the No. 84 spot.
As a duo, Zeleva and Kuznetsova fell into a little bit of a slump. They have since broken out of their skid, winning their last two matches, one coming against a ranked tandem. UCF’s dynamic duo now sits as the No. 31 pair in the nation.
