ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFKnights.com) – The UCF men’s tennis team had sophomore Gabriel Decamps named the American Athletic Conference Player of the Week.
In the team’s lone match this week against the No. 4 Florida Gators, UCF’s No. 1 starter registered the only point for the Knights as they dropped a 6-1 decision.
Decamps matched up with No. 9 Oliver Crawford on Thursday and defeated him in three sets by a count of 2-6, 6-3, 6-3. After falling in the first set, the second set was close. It wasn’t until the middle of the second set when Decamps took over and dominated the rest of the way.
"Gabe had a great win over Crawford of Florida," said Director of Tennis John Roddick, "It was probably one of the best singles wins in the history of our program. Gabe has worked extremely hard and is developing into one of the best players in the country."
Decamps began the season ranked No. 31 in the nation and moves to 1-1 on the season. He missed the first match of the year but played impressively in his season debut against No. 10 Stanford. His match went unfinished but saw him split the first two sets with another ranked opponent.
