Knights Host Tulane For Home Finale

ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFKnights.com) – As the regular season winds down, the UCF women’s basketball team will host Tulane in its final home contest.

 

The Knights (22-5, 11-3 The American) and the Green Wave (15-12, 5-9 The American) will tip off at 2 p.m. in CFE Arena.

 

Following the game, UCF will recognize its seven-member senior class with an on-court ceremony.

  • With just two games remaining in the regular season, UCF sits in second in the league standings with a one-game lead over Cincinnati.
  • The Knights received votes in both the AP and USA Today/WBCA Top 25 this week. UCF remained in the Top 25 of the NCAA RPI for the 11th straight week.
  • Kay Kay Wright leads the Knights with 18.3 points per game, 3.8 assists per contest and 1.9 steals per game.
  • The Orlando native became the first Knight to earn National Player of the Week honors, as she was recognized by the USBWA on Feb. 26. On Feb. 25, she became the first Knight to earn multiple Player of the Week honors in The American.
  • In the Feb. 23 victory over Temple, Wright became the 19th player in UCF history to reach 1,000 points.
  • Nyala Shuler is UCF’s leading rebounder with 7.0 boards per contest and surpassed the 800-rebound mark in the win over the Owls.
  • Shuler and Brittney Smith lead the squad with 18 blocks.
  • Kayla Thigpen has scored in double figures 14 times this season and is UCF’s second leading scorer on the season at 9.7 points per game.

 

Celebrating the Seniors

  • UCF will recognize Nyala Shuler, Fifi Ndour, Kayla Thigpen, Jamesha Paul, Tolulope Omokore, Sydnee McDonald and Lawriell Wilson following the contest.
  • During their careers, this group has achieved milestone after milestone.
  • The seniors helped UCF to three-consecutive 20-win campaigns for the first time in the program’s Division I history.
  • They’ve also helped the Black and Gold to back-to-back postseason appearances, and the first postseason victories (NCAA or WNIT) in program history.

 

Scouting the Opponents

  • Saturday marks the second meeting between UCF and Tulane this season. The Green Wave edged the Knights 61-59 on Feb. 13 and lead the all-time series, 13-9.
  • Tulane is 15-12 overall, with a 5-9 mark in The American.
  • Krystal Freeman leads the Green Wave with 14.4 points per game and 7.4 rebounds per contest.
  • Kaila Anderson has dished out 115 assists, and Erin Gutierrez leads Tulane with 35 steals. Harlyn Wyatt leads four members of the squad with double figure blocks at 35.
