Birmingham, Ala. (UCFKnights.com) – The UCF men’s tennis team swept their double header in Birmingham on Sunday, defeating UAB and Samford 4-0. Both matches were played at Samford.
MATCH ONE; at UAB
The day started with the Knights taking on UAB. The Knights jumped on UAB early in the doubles point and never looked back. Court three was the first to finish in the doubles segment, as Alan Rubio and Mikhail Sokolovskiy downed Daniel Janko and Jasper van Kleef by a count of 6-1. Gabriel Decamps and Manoel Alencar finished next to seal the doubles point for UCF as they defeated Nikolai Manchev and Giovani Pasini 6-3. Court one’s match of Trey Hilderbrand and Bogdan Pavel against No. 40 Roman Postolka and Michal Lusovsky went unfinished.
The Knights made quick work of UAB in the singles portion of the match, winning three courts in straight sets to clinch the match.
Sokolovskiy was the first to clinch as he took down Pasini 6-0, 6-1 on court five. No. 120 Rubio was next to finish on court two, as he topped Janko 6-4, 6-3. UCF clinched on court four, where Bogdan Pavel beat van Kleef 6-3, 7-6. Courts one, three and six went unfinished as No. 22 Decamps, Hilderbrand, and Vasyl Kiselyov couldn’t finish their match before their teammates clinched the match.
MATCH TWO; at Samford
The story was virtually the same as match one. Pavel and Hilderbrand made quick work of doubles court one, taking down Daniel Orlita and Sami Kirberg 6-0. Rubio and Sokolovskiy took down Aleksandar Petrovic and Max Rebol on court three 7-6 to lock up the doubles point and give the Knights the early lead.
Courts one, three and four clinched singles points for the Knights to complete the 4-0 win over Samford and the 8-0 sweep of the day. The first court saw Decamps roll to a 6-1, 6-1 victory over Rossouw Norval. Court three showcased Pavel defeating Kirberg 6-2, 4-6, 6-2. Hilderbrand picked up a victory on court four as he edged Petrovic 7-6, 3-6, 6-0. Courts two, five and six went unfinished as Rubio, Sokolovskiy and Kiselyov couldn’t complete their matches before their fellow Knights.
UP NEXT
The Knights will return home for just their second and third matches at the UCF Collegiate Tennis at the USTA National Campus. The Bethune-Cookman Wildcats will come to town for two matches starting at 10 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. respectively.
