#23 UCF Awaits Baylor on Sunday

ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFKnights.com) – The No. 23 UCF women’s tennis team will match up with the Baylor Bears on Sunday at noon at the UCF Collegiate Tennis Center at the USTA National Campus.

The Knights look to ride the momentum from Sunday’s victory over conference opponent Tulsa. UCF jumped on Tulsa early and never looked back. Tulsa came into ITA Kickoff Weekend ranked twenty-third but dropped out of the rankings after a pair of losses in Illinois.

Baylor comes in to Sunday’s match unranked, breaking UCF’s streak of facing consecutive ranked opponents at three matches. The Bears began the season with a loss but then won five in a row. Since that winning streak, Baylor has fell to two ranked opponents in a row, No. 6 Texas and No. 17 Miami.

The Bears boast a pair of ranked singles players. No. 59 Livia Kraus heads the Baylor lineup and will most likely match up with Valeriya Zeleva. Kraus is 6-1 on the season while Zeleva sits at a perfect 5-0. At the number four spot for Baylor is No. 114 Kris Sorokolet who may go toe to toe with UCF’s other undefeated singles player Marie Mattel. Sorokolet was responsible for one of the two singles points Baylor took from Miami on Friday, which moved her to 6-1 on the 2019 campaign.

Doubles play will be a key factor on how this match unfolds. Baylor comes in with a record of 7-10 across all doubles courts while UCF sits at a 10-5 mark. Ksenia Kuznetsova has paired with Zeleva for a perfect 5-0 at the first spot in doubles play.
