Knights Fall To No. 4 UConn

ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFKnights.com) – The UCF women’s basketball team forced No. 4 UConn into its season high turnovers but dropped a 78-41 decision to the Huskies in CFE Arena on Sunday afternoon.

UCF (20-5, 9-3 The American) used its defense to force UConn (23-2, 11-0 The American) into at least five turnovers a quarter and 21 in the game.

After UConn jumped out to a 23-4 lead after the first quarter, the Knights responded by making six of seven field goals to cut into the deficit, 30-17, at the second quarter media timeout. UCF outscored the Huskies in the 13-11 second frame but trailed 34-17 at the break.

UConn pushed its lead out in the third quarter, hitting five of its six three-point field goal attempts to take a 59-30 lead into the final stanza. The Knights were unable to pull any closer as the Huskies claimed the 78-41 victory.

Kay Kay Wright led the Knights with 17 points. Jamesha Paul added seven and Kayla Thigpen chipped in six. Wright, Paul and Masseny Kaba each dished out a pair of assists and Thigpen collected three steals.

Next up, UCF heads to Wichita State for a 7:30 p.m. ET contest on Feb. 20.
