Former Knights Take Part in Apollos' Launch

ORLANDO (UCFKnights.com) -- Five Varsity Knights are members of the Alliance of American Football's Orlando Apollos, who play their home games at Spectrum Stadium.

On Saturday night, four of those former Knights were part of an offensive unit that racked up the highest scoring output in the first week of the inaugural season.

Offensive linemen Aaron Evans (2013-17), Chris Martin (2009-13) and Jordan McCray (2010-13), along with wide receiver Rannell Hall (2011-14) were all in uniform for Orlando in Week 1. Evans and McCray were in the starting lineup at left tackle and center, respectively. Martin saw a great deal of action as a backup.

The Apollos defeated the Atlanta Legends 40-6 as the offensive line allowed just one sack and led an offense that tallied a league-high 6.8 yards per play. Hall saw plenty of snaps as well and finished with one rush for six yards.

On the defensive side, lineman Tony Guerad (2013-17) is also on the Apollos' roster but was inactive in Week 1 vs. the Legends.

Prior to landing with the Apollos, Martin spent time on five different NFL practice squads from 2014-2018. McCray, whose twin brother Justin suits up for the Green Bay Packers, spent time on three NFL rosters while most recently leveling opposing linemen in the AFL for the Baltimore Brigade.

Following the 2015 draft, Hall signed as an undrafted free agent with Tampa Bay, then spent the next three seasons with Cleveland and Atlanta on their practice squads. Both Evans and Guerad saw time in camp in 2018 with Philadelphia and Jacksonville, respectively, before arriving back in Orlando.

In their time starring for the Black & Gold, this squad of five combined for 12 conference championships, while Guerad and Evans were a part of both UCF's Jan. 1 bowl wins in the Fiesta (2014) and Peach (2018).

These former Knights will travel to San Antonio for a road game vs. the Commanders this week.
