Knights Conclude Music City Challenge

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (UCFKnights.com) – The UCF track and field team closed out the Music City Challenge with another solid performance on Saturday at the Vanderbilt Indoor Track Facility.

“A lot of good things happened today across the board,” UCF head coach Dana Boone said. “We will head into conference with some confidence. Now we will rest up and do some fine tuning to prepare for conference in two weeks. We are looking forward to the much-needed week off from travel.”

The Knights posted six top 10 finishes, including four top five performances.

UCF sent a pair to the finals of the 60-meter dash. Nelda Huggins and Imani Clark each won their heats, and the duo posted top five finishes in the finals. Huggins crossed the line second in 7.42 while Clark finished fifth in 7.48.

Zharia Moore added a top five finish in the 60-meter hurdles, finishing fifth in 8.73.

Four Knights improved their marks on the track. Loren Gallmon posted the fastest 400-meter dash time for the Knights this season, 56.49. Kaitlyn Soltis and Charlotte Crook each improved their marks in the 800-meter run. Soltis finished in 2:13.88, with Crook just behind her in 2:15.06.

In each of her four indoor meets this season, Victoria Jung has registered a personal best mark. She continued the trend on Saturday, improving her mark in the mile with a time of 5:00.32.

Jhane’ Carter was less than four inches shy of her own school record in the shot put, as she finished sixth with a mark of 50-6.25/15.40m.

Both of UCF’s 4x4 relay squads finished in the top 10, with the “A” group taking fifth with a time of 3:46.74 and the “B” group finishing ninth in 3:51.25.

The Knights will now take a weekend off from competition before heading to Birmingham, Ala., for the 2019 American Athletic Conference Indoor Championship.
