Knights Fall to No. 21 Minnesota

ORLANDO (UCFKnights.com) – A late string of hits in the sixth inning fell short for UCF as the Knights dropped their Friday night showdown with No. 21 Minnesota, 7-0 at the UCF Softball Complex.

Breanna Vasquez notched her first start in the circle facing 20 batters. UCF compiled three hits and one walk on the evening, while Minnesota collected nine hits and six walks.

Tamesha Glover grabbed another hit as Kyra Klarkowski grabbed her first hit of the season in the seventh inning. Defensively, the Knights were clean committing zero errors.

  • Four Knights took the field for the first time for UCF.
  • In her collegiate debut, Karissa Ornelas ripped a single up the middle pinch hitting for Erin Emanuel.
  • Takiya London recorded her first at-bat and took the field at shortstop for the seventh inning.
  • Vasquez and Ashley Stephenson each had their first outings as Knights collecting a combined nine hits and five strikeouts.

Scoring:
MINN: 1-0 | 1st | After loading the bases, White singled through the left side for their first run of the night.
MINN: 2-0 | 3rd | After a pair of hits, Kemetmueller grabbed a sacrifice fly to center field to score Houlihan.
MINN: 4-0 | 4th | Lindner delivered a two-run home run to right field.
MINN: 5-0 | 5th | The Gophers put on a successful double steal.
MINN: 7-0 | 6th | Houlihan doubled to deep left center to bring in Brandt, and Brandner answered with another double to bring in Houlihan.

The Knights face Ohio State at 5:30pm and George Mason at 8pm for their first doubleheader of the season. A live stream and live stats will be available.
