ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFKnights.com) – Heading into the third season of the Bryan Koniecko era, the UCF women’s tennis team opens the 2019 campaign ranked at No. 20 in the ORACLE/Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) rankings.
The Knights are coming off a historic season which saw the team clinch their first ever at-large berth in the NCAA tournament. The Black and Gold finished with a 20-5 record, which included a 5-1 record in The American. The Knights defeated FIU to advance to the second round of the tournament where they fell victim to the University of Miami.
Sophomore Ksenia Kuznetsova left her mark last season as a part of the first at-large bid for NCAA Doubles Championship for the Knights. Reigning American Athletic Conference Newcomer of the Year Rebeka Stolmar looks to improve on a stellar freshman season that saw her go 21-2 on the season.
After ending the 2018 season ranked at number 22 in the nation, the ITA has UCF sitting at number 20 to begin the year. This is just one spot shy of the team’s best ranking which they achieved on April 10, 2018.
The Knights begin their season on January 18 at the UCF Collegiate Tennis Center at the USTA National Campus as they host Georgia Southern and Stetson in a double header. UCF takes on Georgia Southern at 11 a.m. before squaring off against Stetson at 5 p.m.
