Tate Wins New Year's Invitational

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (UCFKnights.com) – Senior Kyler Tate had an eventful break after finishing first at the New Year’s Invitational at St. Petersburg Country Club on Sunday. Tate pulled off an impressive final round finishing with a 67(-5) and a 283(-5) after 72 holes to take first place by two strokes.

Tate was sitting near the top of the table after the first two rounds (72-69), but after shooting 75 on Saturday, he fell six shots off the lead heading into the final round. It was his impressive run of birdies on Sunday that catapulted him back into the leader position.

He started with a bogey at No. 2, then went four-under on holes five through nine. He also had three birdies in his final four holes to finish with a 67.

Tate is also thriving in his senior season with the Knights. After four tournaments, Tate has two top five finishes and holds a 71.4 stroke average with a low round of 67.

The Knights continue their 2018-19 season at the Gator Invitational Feb. 16-17 in Gainesville, Fla.
