ORLANDO (UCFKnights.com) –The UCF men’s basketball team has won six in a row and are atop the American Athletic Conference standings at 2-0 after wins over Temple and UConn. On Monday, The American named the Knights’ Aubrey Dawkins the league’s Player of the Week.
Player of the Week for the second time this season, Dawkins led UCF to the two league victories, averaging 16.5 points on a blistering 63 percent shooting from the field. He averaged 3.5 rebounds and 2.0 assists per game on the week.
Dawkins scored in double figures in both games, continuing his program record of scoring in double figures in each of his first 14 games as a Knight.
His season-high 23 points against UConn led UCF to its first ever victory over the Huskies in the state of Connecticut. He shot 9-of-13 from the field, including two three-pointers, while grabbing four boards to help the Knights improve to 12-2 on the season.
Dawkins is now averaging 15.7 points per game on the season to go with 5.6 rebounds per contest. He is shooting 47 percent from the floor, 36 percent from three-point range and 81 percent from the free throw line.
Dawkins and the Knights will return to action this weekend. UCF hosts East Carolina Sunday at 4 p.m. at CFE Arena. The game will air on ESPNU with radio coverage on FM 96.9 The Game.
