UCF Set to Host Houston Wednesday

ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFKnights.com) – The UCF women's basketball team returns to CFE Arena for the first of back-to-back home games. UCF hosts Houston on Wednesday evening.

 

The Knights (17-3, 6-1 The American) and the Cougars (10-9, 4-2 The American) will tip off at 6 p.m., with gates opening at 5 p.m. The game will air on ESPN3.

Notes to Know

  • For the fourth consecutive week, UCF is receiving votes in both the AP Top 25 and the USA Today/WBCA Top 25 polls.
  • The Knights return to CFE Arena to host the first of two consecutive home games.
  • Kay Kay Wright leads the Knights with 18.2 points per game, 3.7 assists per contest and 1.9 steals per game.
  • Last week Nyala Shuler improved her season-best scoring in back-to-back games. After a double-double performance at ECU, Shuler scored a season-high 13 points at No. 2/3 UConn.
  • Shuler is UCF’s leading rebounder with 7.5 boards per contest. She ranks fifth all-time in career rebounds this season with 769 rebounds and moved into the career top 10 with 74 blocks.
  • Kayla Thigpen has scored in double figures in six of the last nine games, including a career-best 20 points at Memphis, and is UCF’s second leading scorer on the season at 9.2 points per game.

 

Knugget Knight Festivities

  • Prior to Wednesday’s game, Knugget will be available for a pregame meet and greet beginning at 5:15 p.m. in the student section.
  • The first 50 fans will receive a live autographed Knugget poster, with the first 200 fans receiving an autographed Knugget poster.
  • The first 1,000 fans will receive a miniature Knugget bobblehead.
  • There will also be several Knugget-themed competitions throughout the game.

 

Scouting the Opponents

  • UCF and Houston will meet for the 20th time on the hardwood. The Knights hold a 13-6 lead in the all-time series.
  • The Cougars are 10-9 overall this season, with a 4-2 mark in The American.
  • Jasmyne Harris is Houston’s leading scorer at 16.2 points per game but has not played in the last five contests.
  • Angela Harris averages 10.1 points per game and has 39 steals.
  • Serithia Hawkins averages 7.5 rebounds per game and Alyssa Okoene has a team-leading 16 block for the Cougars.
