ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFKnights.com) – The UCF men’s tennis team opens their 2019 home schedule against the No. 4 Florida Gators on Thursday at the UCF Collegiate Tennis Center at the USTA National Campus.
The Knights are coming off two separate road trips. UCF opened the season in Fayetteville, Ark. with a tight 4-3 loss to the Razorbacks. Palo Alto, Calif. was the site of the Black and Gold’s second road trip as they flew west for ITA Kickoff Weekend. Here they battled with No. 10 Stanford on Saturday and dropped a 4-1 decision. Saturday’s result sent the Knights to the consolation match where they faced Minnesota. After winning the doubles point, UCF was edged 4-3.
The doubles-duo of freshmen Trey Hilderbrand and Bogdan Pavel have put forth an impressive start, going 2-1 to this point in the season. No. 88 Mikhail Sokolovskiy has begun his season with a 3-0 mark in singles and a 1-0 record in doubles with his partner Alan Rubio.
Florida is out to a 2-0 start on the season with a 4-0 decision over William & Mary and a 4-1 decision over FAU. The Gators began the year ranked No. 4 after finishing their 2018 season ranked No. 10.
This match will be the nineteenth time the Knights have played Florida in school history. The next chapter of this in-state show down happens Thursday at 6 p.m.
