UCF Closes Bob Pollock Strong

CLEMSON, S.C. (UCFKnights.com) – The UCF track and field team showed improvement again on the final day of the Bob Pollock Invitational. The Knights posted 11 top 10 finishes in the Clemson University Indoor Complex on Saturday.

“I am very pleased with the progress this team continues to make,” UCF head coach Dana Boone said. “We continue to get better across the board each week. Our focus is to put ourselves in a position to do well at the conference meet. We continue to put people on the conference list each week, and for this team that is a huge confidence booster, which is what we want. We will get some rest and recovery and get back to work next week.”

The Black and Gold start the day with a dominant showing in the 200-meter dash, with four Knights finishing in the top 10. Posting a personal best mark that is the second-fastest mark in The American this season, Imani Clark took third overall in 23.82.

Shian Hyde followed closely behind, finishing fourth with a 23.86 mark that is the third-fastest time in the conference. Nelda Huggins (24.09) and Shaniya Williams (24.56) joined Clark and Hyde in the top 10.

A pair of Knights used personal best marks to finish in the top 15 of the 800-meter run. Katie Pinnell (2:14.75) took ninth, and Kaitlyn Soltis (2:15.57) finished 11th. Charlotte Crook made her collegiate debut in the 800, finishing 18th with a time of 2:18.01.

Gabby Durant posted her second podium finish in as many weeks in the weight throw with a 63-5/19.33m toss to finish third. Jhane’ Carter (63-2.25/19.26m) and Soteria Russell (52-5.5/15.99m) used personal best marks to join Durant in the top 10.

Running together for the first time this season, the 4x4 relay of Devin D’Oliveira, Hyde, Clark and Loren Gallmon posted UCF’s fastest mark in the event in 2019 and the third-fastest time in the conference this year. The squad finished fourth with a time of 3:44.25.

Both of UCF’s triple jumpers finished in the top 10. Daneesha Davidson (39-1.25/11.92m) took eighth and Briana Potter (38-5.5/11.72m) finished ninth.

The Knights return to action at the Carolina Challenge, hosted by the University of South Carolina. The meet will take place Feb. 1-2 at the Indoor Track and Field Complex.
