UCF Heads West for ITA Kickoff Weekend

ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFKnights.com) – The UCF men’s tennis team travels to Palo Alto, Calif. For ITA Kickoff Weekend. The Knights will play No. 10 Stanford at 2 p.m. on Saturday before facing either Minnesota or Oregon on Sunday.

UCF has played just one match so far this season as they dropped their season opener to Arkansas 4-3. The Black and Gold won the doubles point to jump out to an early edge. The Knights extended that edge to 2-0 when Trey Hilderbrand earned his first collegiate victory. Mikhail Sokolovskiy also picked up a singles point on court five.

Stanford has started their season with two victories as they downed Saint Mary’s and Santa Clara with ease. In both matches, no Stanford player lost a set and all three doubles courts earned victories. They are led by senior and team captain Sameer Kumar and several other returners from last season, which saw Stanford end the season ranked at No. 7.

Minnesota has started their season 2-0. They defeated DePaul and Green Bay, both with 7-0 routes. They will face the Oregon Ducks who have also won their only two matches with sweeps against Idaho and Seattle.

The winner of the UCF/Stanford match will play the winner of Minnesota/Oregon on Sunday at 2 p.m. The loser of each match will play a consolation game also at 2 p.m. on Sunday.
