ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFKnights.com) – The UCF women’s basketball team opens a two-game road swing at ECU on Wednesday.

 

The Knights (16-2, 5-0 The American) and the Pirates (10-8, 1-3 The American) will tip off at 7 p.m. on the American Digital Network.

Notes to Know

  • UCF is off to its best overall start and the best start in conference play in the Division I era.
  • Kay Kay Wright has scored in double figures in all 18 games and her 21-point outing on Saturday was the eighth time she has turned in a 20-point performance this season.
  • The Knights enter Saturday on a five-game win streak and are off to the program’s first 4-0 start in The American.
  • Wright’s 19.3 points per game is not only a team-high, but it also leads the conference.
  • UCF’s leading rebounder is Nyala Shuler with 7.5 boards per contest. She ranks fifth all-time in career rebounds this season with 755 rebounds and is tied for ninth with 74 career blocks.
  • Kayla Thigpen has scored in double figures in five of the last eight games, including a career-best 20 points at Memphis, and is UCF’s second leading scorer on the season at 8.9 points per game.

 

Picking Up Votes

  • The Knights continue to pick up votes in the AP Top 25, appearing on six ballots for 20 points in the Jan. 21 poll.
  • UCF earned the fifth-most votes among the receiving votes teams, putting them at 30th in the rankings.
  • The Knights earned their first vote in the AP poll on Jan. 7 and collected four points in the Jan. 14 poll.

 

Scouting the Opponents

  • UCF and ECU meet for the 23rd time on the hardwood. The Pirates have a 14-8 lead in the all-time series, but the Knights have won the last three meetings between the programs.
  • ECU enters the game with a 10-7 overall record, with a 1-3 mark in The American.
  • Raven Johnson leads the Pirates with 13.4 points per game and 6.5 rebounds per contest.
  • Lashonda Monk averages 12.6 points per game for ECU and has a team-leading 3.1 assists per game and 3.7 steals per contest.
  • Destiny Campbell averages 1.4 blocks per contest for the Pirates.
