ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFKnights.com) – Saturday will feature a double-dose of basketball in CFE Arena as the UCF women’s basketball team will host SMU as part of a doubleheader.
The Knights (15-2, 4-0 The American) and the Mustangs (7-10, 1-3 The American) will tip off 30 minutes after the conclusion of the UCF men’s basketball game against Tulsa.

- UCF picked up more votes in both the AP Top 25 and the USA Today/WBCA Top 25 polls this week.
- Kay Kay Wright earned her first career American Athletic Conference Player of the Week honor on Monday, averaging 22.5 PPG, 5.5 RPG, 3.5 SPG and 2.5 APG to help UCF go 2-0 last week.
- The Knights enter Saturday on a five-game win streak and are off to the program’s first 4-0 start in The American.
- Wright has scored in double figures in all 17 games and is UCF’s leading scorer with 19.2 points per game.
- The Orlando native used a pair of assists against Tulsa to take sole possession of fifth all-time at UCF with 329 career assists.
- UCF’s leading rebounder is Nyala Shuler with 7.4 boards per contest. She ranks fifth all-time in career rebounds this season with 745 rebounds and moved into the career top 10 with 73 blocks.
- Kayla Thigpen has scored in double figures in five of the last seven games, including a career-best 20 points at Memphis, and is UCF’s second leading scorer on the season at 9.4 points per game.
Scouting the Opponents
- UCF and SMU meet for the 23rd time on the hardwood. The Mustangs lead the all-time series 13-9, but the Knights have won the last three meetings.
- SMU is 7-10 overall this season, with a 1-3 mark in The American.
- Alicia Froling and Kayla White each average 12.1 points per game for the Mustangs.
- After missing last season with an injury, Froling is averaging a double-double for SMU this year, pulling down 10.5 rebounds per contest. She also has a team-leading 40 blocks.
- Arianna Whitfield and Amber Bacon lead the Mustangs with 3.4 and 3.1 assists per game, respectively.
- Bacon and White are SMU’s leaders in steals, each averaging 1.6 per contest.
